The Chairs
We are two scientists at the University of Milan with a shared commitment to polymer science, spanning fundamental research, technological applications, teaching, and scientific exchange. Our work reflects the broad and interdisciplinary nature of polymer science and its contribution to addressing scientific and technological challenges.
As Chairs of FRPM2027, we are pleased to welcome the international flame-retardant polymer community to Milan. We see this congress as an opportunity to foster scientific discussion, encourage new collaborations, and strengthen the exchange of ideas among researchers working towards safer and more sustainable polymeric materials.
On this page, we briefly introduce ourselves and our scientific backgrounds, which are outlined in the short CVs that follow.
Jenny Alongi
Jenny Alongi is Associate Professor of Industrial Chemistry at the University of Milan, where she has been working since 2015. Her research focuses on polymer degradation, thermo-oxidative stability, and the design of functional polymeric materials, with particular emphasis on sustainable flame retardants and smart coatings. She developed specific expertise in flame-retardant systems during her research activity at the Polytechnic University of Turin and has since contributed to the development of innovative, high-performance polymer coatings through internationally funded projects. Alongside her research, she is active in scientific publishing and university teaching, and currently serves as Editor of Polymer Degradation and Stability.
Elisabetta Ranucci
Elisabetta Ranucci is Full Professor of Industrial Chemistry at the University of Milan, where she has contributed to the development of polymer chemistry research and teaching since 2001. After earning her degree in Chemistry from the University of Pisa and conducting research at the University of Brescia and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, she developed broad expertise in the design and synthesis of multifunctional polymeric materials. Her research interests span flame-retardant polymer nanocomposites, functional hydrogels, polymer-based materials for water purification, and oligomers with controlled functionality. She has coordinated and participated in numerous national and international research projects, including collaborations with industry. Alongside her research, she has played a key role in developing polymer chemistry teaching at the University of Milan and, since 2017, has chaired and organized the annual Milan Polymer Days international congress.
The Milan Polymer Group A.P.S.
Founded in 2024 by Elisabetta Ranucci and Jenny Alongi, together with colleagues from the University of Milan, the Milan Polymer Group A.P.S. is a non-profit association dedicated to promoting scientific culture in polymer science and technology, advanced materials, and related disciplines. Ranucci serves as President and Alongi as Vice-President. The association is responsible for organizing FRPM2027, in keeping with its commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and fostering exchange and collaboration within the scientific community.
Mission
The association pursues its mission through a range of activities aimed at promoting research, education, training, and public engagement. Its main objectives are to:
Promote scientific exchange through national and international conferences, congresses, and other events bringing together researchers from academia and industry.
Support education and training through courses, workshops, and professional development initiatives for students, researchers, and educators.
Disseminate scientific knowledge through public engagement activities, seminars, publications, digital media, and other outreach initiatives.
Foster research and support emerging talent by promoting scientific research and supporting students and early-career researchers through awards, scholarships, and other initiatives.
Encourage collaboration with associations and institutions sharing similar aims.
Support its activities through fundraising and other initiatives consistent with its non-profit status and statutory purposes.
The association's activities are guided by the objectives set out in its statute and by the ethical principles presented below.
Ethical Principles
The Milan Polymer Group A.P.S. is committed to fostering an open, inclusive, and respectful scientific community. Its activities are guided by the principles of transparency, integrity, equal opportunities, and mutual respect, regardless of gender, cultural background, nationality, religion, or personal beliefs. The association values diversity as a source of enrichment and encourages dialogue, collaboration, and the active participation of all members of the scientific community. It strives to ensure a welcoming environment in which everyone can contribute freely and equally to scientific exchange, education, and research.
